With the intention of renewing the experience of the ‘Città di Monza’ National Painting Awards, which in the 1950s had led to the Museum acquiring works by authors representative of contemporary Italian painting, the first edition of the Biennale Giovani Monza was launched in 2005.
In each edition of the biennials, five young critics select and exhibit works by young artists no longer limited to painting alone, but also linked to sculpture and multimedia; a qualified jury then selects the works that become part of the civic collections, thus keeping alive the link between the Museum and contemporary artistic culture.
A small part of the award-winning works is presented in this section which, as if to suggest new and topical keys to interpretate the potential of the language of art, is placed at the beginning and at the same time at the end of the Museum’s tour, giving a glimpse of 21st century art after having caught a hint of the ancient one in the cloister and in the first exhibition section.
