THE MUSEUM
Monza’s Musei Civici include the collections of the Pinacoteca Civica and the Museo Storico dell’Arengario. Their public institution dates back to 1935 and was created around an important collection core that came to the Municipality in 1923 from the Galbesi Segrè donation.
Over the course of time, the heritage of the collections has been enriched by various works of art and repertoires originating from donations, purchases and as a result of the most significant artistic and cultural events that took place in the city during the 20th century: Biennales, ISIA, the City of Monza Painting Prize and, in more recent years, the Biennale Giovani.
Among the collections of an artistic nature, the paintings and sculptures of Monza artists working in the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century stand out for their importance and numerical density. Also of interest is the conspicuous core of 20th century drawings and graphics, which entered the collections through direct bequests from artists or their inheritors.
Also present in the collections of the Civic Museums from the very beginning is a significant heritage of antique and modern prints that constitutes the Prints Cabinet.
In the current location in Via Teodolinda, the so-called “Casa degli Umiliati”, built by renovating a historic building of the religious order of the Umiliati present in the city in the Middle Ages, a selection of works emblematic of the historical and artistic events of Monza are exhibited.
The Museum also has a conference room and a lecture room to complete its cultural offer and to fully accomplish its mission.

ACCESSIBILITY
(Musei Civici of Monza for all)
Thanks to the set of interventions financed by the PNRR Nextgeneration EU, the exhibition itinerary is now fully accessible to visitors with physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities.
The “Architectural Barriers Elimination Plan – P.E.B.A.”, the document that identified the objectives for the removal of physical, sensory and cognitive barriers to make the museum space fully accessible, has been accomplished.
People with disabilities can now enjoy the museum’s artistic heritage through a series of specially prepared itineraries that offer a set of alternative knowledge tools: three-dimensional models, audio descriptions of the works, LIS videos, a multisensory workstation, and printed and online guides in facilitated language, also in English.
The project is not only aimed at people with disabilities: the new tools and devices have their own way of disseminating the collection and make accessibility an added value to the museum experience, increasing the possibilities of understanding the works of art.
The website www.museicivicimonza.it has been implemented and is fully accessible.
A wheelchair, a mobility scooter and a pushchair are available free of charge at the bookshop to facilitate visits for elderly people and families.
The museum’s Educational Services offer tours and workshops designed for all types of visitors, by appointment.
Access to the museum is free of charge for the disabled person (on presentation of a disability document) and their carer. Some initiatives may be chargeable.
